Bullying Prevention
On July 4, 2008, “Article XIII-A Safe Schools” of the Pennsylvania School Code of 1949 was amended. The purpose of this amendment is create a safe and positive environment for students to learn. This amendment contains information about Bullying and includes prohibiting any form of Bullying by school districts. In addition, school districts are required to have a policy regarding Bullying in their schools.

Garrett Lee Smith Grant
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded a youth suicide prevention grant to the Pennsylvania Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. The award is for $500,000 per year for three years. The grants are authorized as part of the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act, sponsored in Congress by Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon who lost his son to suicide in 2003.
STAR-Center was involved in the application of this grant, and will be responsible for providing training for the grant project.
